Job summary

Bentley Systems is seeking a delivery-focused Senior Principal Engineer to own and rapidly deliver the end-to-end technical architecture of the Bentley Developer Platform from the developer experience to the API registry. Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience and significant time spent architecting large-scale systems.
• Own the comprehensive developer platform architecture spanning from the front-end developer experience down to the API registry including commercialization, adoption, support and analytics.
• Experience evaluating, implementing, and operating enterprise API Management and Integration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Apigee, Kong, Workato) and developer portal frameworks (Backstage).
• Proven track record of architecting and assembling a new API platform by integrating enterprise tools and writing custom software when required.
• Demonstrated experience partnering with Product teams to define and establish global API standards for monitoring, authentication, metering and registration.
• Strong technical expertise in OAuth 2.0 / OIDC and security models.
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems, event streaming, API gateways, routing and ERP/settlement integrations.
• Familiarity with AI/agent integration patterns and MCP is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the architecture of the developer platform, including API gateway, authentication, metering, billing integration, and settlement.
• Own the end-to-end platform architecture from developer experience through to the registry, including commercialization, adoption, support, monitoring and analytics.
• Work with Product to set API standards enabling monitoring, authentication, metering and registration.
• Write production code and review pull requests; remain the senior hands-on technical contributor.
• Serve as the primary technical interface between Developer Platform, Product & Technology and product engineering teams.
• Publish API Design Standards in collaboration with product teams to reflect technical reality and adoption patterns.
• Own platform standards and governance: define telemetry, hub listing requirements, and security/integration patterns across API families.
• Establish IMS OAuth as standard authentication across platform surfaces.
• Define migration paths for existing APIs to platform standards.
• Ensure AI and MCP surfaces are first-class citizens in platform architecture and taxonomy.
