Job summary

Senior Controls Field Service Engineer (PLC Programming) in Kilkenny, Ireland. This contract role involves hands-on automation work, developing, commissioning, and supporting PLC/HMI systems for diverse clients worldwide.

Travel both domestically and internationally as required to install, commission, and service sophisticated automated production lines. The ideal candidatehas at least 5 years in industrial automation, with 3+ years PLC/HMI programming, and strong experience with Allen Bradley

Qualifications

Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years in industrial automation or controls environments.
At least 3 years programming PLCs and HMIs.
Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley and/or Siemens platforms.
Proven fault diagnosis in automated machinery.
Understanding of motion control, servo drives, networks and automation architectures.

Responsibilities

Develop, modify and support PLC and PC-based control software to meet customer requirements.
Commission, troubleshoot and optimize automated machinery and systems.
Diagnose and resolve controls, electrical, and automation faults on customer sites.
Maintain PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, robotics and related hardware.
Provide technical support during installations, upgrades and maintenance.
Produce detailed service reports and documentation.
Identify system improvement opportunities and enhancements.
Coordinate with customers, project teams and third-party suppliers.
Lead on-site technical activities as required.
Build deep knowledge of specialist automation systems for customers.
