Job summary

Danone Specialized Nutrition in Ireland is launching a greenfield site to implement next‑generation MES/MOM/SCADA and related IT/OT automation. The MES Engineer will design, implement, and maintain MES/MOM, SCADA, and PLC applications, conducting FAT/SAT and ensuring integration with SAP and ERP systems.

You will lead cross-functional workshops, apply ISA‑95 principles, and guide third‑party suppliers to deliver compliant, secure, and scalable automation solutions on a multi-year program.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Automation, Electrical, Control, Computer or Industrial IT Engineering or equivalent Technical discipline.
• 10+ years’ experience in regulated manufacturing environments (food/beverage/pharma) preferred.
• Strong MES/MOM expertise, including design, workflows, and system integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, integration, testing, validation and implementation of MES/MOM, SCADA and PLC applications.
• Plan and facilitate MES functional and integration workshops with cross-functional teams.
• Apply ISA-95 principles to define system boundaries, hierarchies, workflows, and interfaces.
• Review and approve functional designs, architectures, interfaces and test docs.
• Coordinate FAT, SAT, UAT, and end-to-end integration testing and defect resolution.
• Ensure OT cybersecurity, server/virtualization/network requirements, and system resilience.
• Coordinate integration between MES/MOM, PLC/SCADA, ERP and other manufacturing systems.
• Lead third-party suppliers and system integrators, with clear scope and ownership.
• Support cutover, data loading, start-up, ramp-up and operational readiness.
• Deliver complete handover of as-built documentation, source code, backups and licenses.

Danone Specialized Nutrition is launching a major greenfield investment to build our next‑generation liquid nutrition facility, featuring advanced high‑hygiene, UHT, aseptic, and filling technologies.
The MES Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining MES / SCADA / COMMS solutions within our new manufacturing plant. You will be our go to expert for IT OT & Automation infrastructure and infrastructure performance. You will collaborate closely with a cross functional team locally and globally in addition to external partners such as systems integrators. You will love to proactively configure workflows and integrations, troubleshoot, maintain, document and ensure seamless integration between MES, SAP and other systems. You implement solutions and add value across a range of requirements.
You are no stranger to automation and engineering in a production environment. Used to properly design (FDS/SDS), implement, validate (FAT), commission (SAT) an MES application within the Good Automated Manufacturing Practice standard.

• Lead the design, integration, testing, validation and implementation of Castle’s MES/MOM, SCADA and PLC applications.
• Plan and facilitate MES functional and integration workshops, translating manufacturing needs into clear, traceable and testable requirements.
• Apply ISA-95 principles to define system boundaries, equipment hierarchies, workflows and interfaces between enterprise, MES/MOM, SCADA and PLC layers.
• Review and approve functional designs, system architectures, interface specifications, test documentation and supplier deliverables.
• Coordinate simulation, FAT, SAT, UAT, end‑to‑end integration testing, commissioning and defect resolution.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Danone standards, technical specifications, project requirements and OT cybersecurity principles.
• Review OT infrastructure requirements, including servers, virtualization, networks, segmentation, backup, recovery, remote access and system resilience.
• Technically lead third‑party suppliers, system integrators, OEMs and application vendors, ensuring clear scope boundaries, interface ownership, deliverables and acceptance criteria.
• Coordinate integration between MES/MOM, PLC/SCADA, ERP, WMS, LIMS and other connected manufacturing systems.
• Support cutover, data loading, start‑up, ramp‑up and operational readiness.
• Ensure complete handover of as‑built documentation, source code, backups, licenses, test evidence, training and support information.

Education & Skills

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Automation, Electrical, Control, Computer of Industrial I.T Engineering or equivalent Technical discipline.
• 10 plus years’ experience food, beverage, specialized nutrition, pharmaceutical or similarly regulated manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
• Strong MES/ MOM expertise covering MES / MOM functional design, manufacturing operations workflows, system integration, implementation operational handover
• Experienced in technically leading third party suppliers, system integrators, equipment OEMs and application vendors
• Strong automation expertise combined with good knowledge of OT infrastructure and cybersecurity
• Expert level experience in infrastructure, architecture, design or implementation is a strong advantage.
