Job summary

AIR Sligo, part of the AIR Group, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead and deliver automated equipment projects. You will contribute to concept development, 3D design, and hands-on build, ensuring performance and EU compliance.

Ideal candidates have a degree in engineering, extensive automation design experience, and strong communication skills to coordinate with customers and suppliers across global sites.

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline.
• Experience leading automation design and commissioning is desirable.
• Strong 3D CAD experience, especially SolidWorks.
• Excellent communication and ability to work within a technical team.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative automation concepts from customer requirements.
• Create 3D designs of mechatronic equipment and systems.
• Be hands-on during build and debugging to meet specs.
• Lead large projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.
• Provide guidance to technicians to realise designs.
• Design and implement process improvements for existing equipment.
• Prepare detailed tooling drawings and schematics.
• Liaise with suppliers and customers on requirements.
• Produce safety risk assessments and FMEAs.
• Develop machine documentation to EU standards.
• Meet project delivery deadlines.
• Communicate clearly on specifications and issues daily.
