Job summary

AIR Sligo, part of the AIR Group, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and implementation of automated equipment for global customers. The role requires hands-on involvement from design through build and debugging, delivering robust solutions in a fast-paced team.

You will use 3D CAD (SolidWorks) to create innovative mechatronic designs, drive process improvements, and coordinate with suppliers and customers to ensure milestones are met.

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
• Minimum 4 years experience in automation projects including design sign-off, installation and commissioning
• Significant experience in machine design role
• Strong experience using 3D CAD such as SolidWorks
• Excellent communication skills
• Self-starter with attention to detail
• Willing to take ownership to realise milestones
• Keen interest in engineering technology and automation trends
• Project management experience advantageous
• Valid driving licence and ability to travel

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative concepts from customer requirements within the design team
• 3D design of mechatronic equipment including mechanisms, transfer systems, servo systems, robotics, pneumatics, electrical equipment and machine guarding systems
• Hands-on involvement at build and debugging stage to meet performance specifications
• Take responsibility for large projects and manage cross-functional teams through the life cycle
• Provide guidance to machine build technicians to realise designs and ensure customer goals are achieved
• Design and implement process improvements for existing automation equipment
• Prepare detailed tooling drawings and pneumatic schematics
• Liaise with suppliers for component procurement
• Interact with customers on requirements and project deliverables
• Prepare safety risk assessments and FMEAs
• Develop machine documentation to meet EU standards
• Meet project delivery deadlines
• Maintain excellent communication within a technical team on specifications and issues
