Job summary

MH Engineering, part of MTM Group, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial and contractual aspects of mechanical projects across Ireland. You will ensure profitability, contractual compliance and provide commercial leadership to project teams.

Based in Clonmel, Ireland, with travel across Europe, you will oversee budgeting, valuations, variations, cost forecasting and reporting, collaborating with operations and stakeholders to optimise project performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or related field.
  • Proven experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role within construction, engineering or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong understanding of standard forms of contract, procurement processes and commercial administration practices.
  • Demonstrated budgeting, forecasting, cost control, valuations and variations experience.
  • Experience administering contracts and subcontractor agreements within a project environment.

As a Senior Mechanical Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial and contractual aspects of assigned mechanical engineering projects, ensuring projects are delivered profitably, contractually compliant and aligned with organisational objectives. This role supports financial performance across the project lifecycle, manages key commercial processes and provides commercial expertise to project and operational teams.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the commercial aspects of assigned mechanical engineering projects, ensuring strong financial performance and contractual compliance.
  • Prepare, manage and monitor project budgets in collaboration with project teams and senior management.
  • Support the Managing Director, Operations Manager and project teams on commercial and contractual matters, providing regular reporting and insights.
  • Assist in the negotiation and administration of contract terms with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, budgets, valuations, variations and financial reports across all project stages.
  • Monitor compliance with contractual terms and conditions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide commercial input into procurement activities, tender evaluations and bid submissions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project profitability and minimise costs through proactive commercial management.
  • Work closely with operations and delivery teams to ensure work is executed efficiently and aligned with commercial objectives.
  • Manage project cash flow, ensuring timely invoicing, valuations, applications for payment and collections.
  • Identify, assess and manage commercial, financial and contractual risks and opportunities throughout project delivery.
  • Analyse project plans, drawings and specifications to ensure comprehensive and accurate cost forecasting.
  • Prepare, submit and agree interim valuations, final accounts and variation claims.
  • Review and administer contracts and subcontracts to ensure alignment with project objectives and commercial requirements.
  • Monitor project costs, prepare forecasts, report variances and implement appropriate commercial controls.
  • Prepare regular cost reports, cash flow forecasts and commercial updates for stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits to assess progress, verify quantities and ensure commercial accuracy.
  • Collaborate with project managers, site managers, engineers and other stakeholders to ensure financial objectives are achieved.
  • Build strong working relationships across project teams to support effective project delivery.
  • Provide commercial recommendations to improve project efficiency, profitability and overall performance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role within construction, engineering or infrastructure sectors, with strong experience managing mechanical, piping or M&E contracts across project lifecycles.
  • Strong understanding of standard forms of contract, procurement processes and commercial administration practices.
  • Demonstrated ability in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, valuations, variations and commercial reporting.
  • Experience administering contracts and subcontractor agreements within a project environment.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills with a commercially focused mindset.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with experience using commercial and project management software.
  • Professional membership of SCSI, RICS or equivalent industry body would be advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel across Europe as required.
  • Clean driving licence and eligibility to work across Europe.
