Job summary

Network Talent Partners seeks a Senior Mechanical Lead / Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical delivery of major data centre projects in Ireland. You will own concept through commissioning, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and liaising with clients and contractors.

The role requires strong HVAC/critical cooling knowledge, data centre experience and BIM/Revit proficiency. Travel to sites in Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe is expected.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• Experience in data centres or mission-critical environments.
• BIM/Revit experience is preferred.
• Chartered Engineer status or progress toward chartership is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design packages on major data centre projects.
• Develop and review mechanical calculations, schematics, specifications and equipment schedules.
• Work across critical cooling systems including chillers, CRAHs/CRACs, AHUs, pumps and heat rejection.
• Develop solutions around resilience, redundancy and maintainability (N, N+1, 2N).
• Coordinate mechanical design with electrical, CSA, fire protection and BMS/controls teams.
• Review contractor designs, submittals, RFIs and vendor proposals.
• Provide technical support during construction including site inspections and design reviews.
• Support testing, commissioning and IST activities.
• Manage deliverables, design programmes, resources, scope and quality.
• Lead design and coordination meetings; act as senior technical client contact.
• Mentor and support junior engineers; review technical work.
• Identify project risks and assist with change and commercial delivery.

We are working with a specialist engineering consultancy with an established presence across the data centre and mission-critical sector. As the business continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Lead / Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Ireland.

This is an opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to take ownership of major data centre projects, providing technical leadership while working closely with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams across the full project lifecycle.

The Role

You will take responsibility for the mechanical engineering delivery of major data centre and mission-critical projects, from concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction and commissioning.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading mechanical design packages on major data centre projects.
• Developing and reviewing mechanical calculations, schematics, specifications and equipment schedules.
• Working across critical cooling systems including chillers, CRAHs/CRACs, AHUs, pumps and heat rejection systems.
• Developing solutions around resilience, redundancy and maintainability, including N, N+1 and 2N philosophies.
• Coordinating mechanical design with electrical, CSA, fire protection and BMS/controls teams.
• Reviewing contractor designs, technical submittals, RFIs and vendor proposals.
• Providing technical support during construction, including site inspections and design reviews.
• Supporting testing, commissioning and IST activities.
• Managing project deliverables, design programmes, resources, scope and technical quality.
• Leading design and coordination meetings and acting as a senior technical point of contact for clients.
• Mentoring and supporting junior engineers and reviewing technical work.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Building Services Engineer with a strong background in data centres or other mission-critical environments.

Ideally, you will have:

• A consultancy or specialist data-centre engineering background.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC and critical cooling systems.
• Experience taking mechanical designs from concept through construction and commissioning.
• Experience leading mechanical workstreams and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong client-facing and communication skills.
• Experience with BIM/Revit.
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards chartership, would be advantageous.

The Opportunity

This is a senior technical position within a growing specialist data centre consultancy, offering the opportunity to work on large-scale, technically complex mission-critical projects while taking ownership of mechanical delivery and developing the wider engineering team.

The role will involve working with major clients and multidisciplinary teams across Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe, with travel to project sites as required.
