Job summary

Veolia Ireland is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead mechanical design for water and wastewater projects across the island. You will provide technical leadership, review designs, and ensure compliance with project standards while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.

You will work with suppliers, support tender activities, and mentor engineers, applying hydraulic design, equipment sizing, and process optimization to deliver robust treatment solutions.

Qualifications

• Level 8/9 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years' experience in a mechanical design engineering role with progression to senior technical level.
• Substantial Water/Wastewater treatment industry experience including plant design, pumping systems, and process equipment.
• Proven expertise in equipment selection and specification for water treatment applications (pumps, valves, mixers, etc.).
• Strong hydraulic design capabilities including pipe sizing, head loss calculations, pump selection, and system analysis.

Responsibilities

• Developing innovative design solutions for water and wastewater treatment infrastructure, including mechanical equipment selection, hydraulics, and P&IDs.
• Leading technical design reviews and approving detailed designs and equipment specifications.
• Acting as the technical authority on mechanical and hydraulic design matters throughout project lifecycles.
• Performing engineering calculations for equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, and system performance.
• Leading client engagements from concept through detailed design, implementation, and delivery.
• Representing Veolia at client meetings, design workshops, and technical presentations.
• Providing input to tender and proposal development and mentoring engineers.
