The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team specialising in the design and development of advanced HVAC and data centre cooling solutions.

This is a senior technical leadership position, offering the opportunity to take ownership of complex mechanical design projects across Air Handling Units (AHUs), Computer Room Air Handling (CRAH) systems, Fan Wall units and Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs).

Working closely with customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will translate complex technical requirements into practical, innovative and manufacturable solutions. You will lead projects from initial concept and detailed design through prototype development, validation and final production release.

This role would suit an experienced HVAC mechanical design engineer who combines strong technical expertise with customer-facing experience and the ability to mentor and guide other engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical design and development of bespoke HVAC and data centre cooling equipment, including AHUs, CRAHs, Fan Walls and CDUs.

  • Act as the primary technical interface between customers and internal engineering teams.

  • Lead customer meetings and technical discussions to understand, challenge and define project requirements.

  • Translate customer specifications into practical and manufacturable engineering solutions.

  • Drive projects from concept development through detailed design, prototype testing, validation and production release.

  • Conduct technical feasibility assessments, design reviews and engineering risk evaluations.

  • Perform coil, fan and pump selections using relevant engineering methodologies and selection software.

  • Review and approve engineering designs, technical submittals and customer-facing documentation.

  • Support prototype testing, performance verification and resolution of technical issues.

  • Work closely with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, controls and project management teams.

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentorship to mechanical engineers.

  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, project specifications and internal engineering practices.

  • Support customer presentations, technical proposals and bid reviews.

What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in HVAC mechanical design engineering.

  • Extensive knowledge of Air Handling Unit (AHU) design and HVAC equipment.

  • Experience leading complex, customer-driven engineering and product development projects.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing considerations and product development lifecycles.

  • Experience taking engineering projects from initial concept through prototype validation and production handover.

  • Practical experience with coil selection, fan selection and pump selection.

  • Previous experience engaging directly with customers in a technical or engineering capacity.

  • Demonstrated ability to review, approve and technically sign off engineering designs.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving and technical leadership capabilities.

Desirable Experience
  • Experience designing or developing data centre cooling equipment, including CRAH, CRAC, Fan Wall or CDU systems.

  • Knowledge of chilled water and refrigerant pipework design.

  • Familiarity with relevant HVAC industry standards, codes and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience with prototype development, performance testing and product validation.

The Package
  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.

  • Opportunity to take on a senior technical leadership position within a specialist engineering environment.

  • Involvement in complex, technically challenging HVAC and data centre cooling projects.

  • Opportunity to influence product development and engineering standards.
