Mastercard in Dublin seeks a Senior Java Software Engineer to join a real-time, distributed systems team building a high-performance data caching layer for fraud platform.

You’ll own features end-to-end, mentor peers, and contribute to architecture, testing and release processes in an Agile environment.

This role offers exposure to global-scale infrastructure, low latency, and opportunities to shape technical direction.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency with modern Java (JDK 17+); distributed systems and multi-threading.
• Experience with Spring/Spring Boot, Hibernate, RESTful APIs, JSON; application servers (e.g. JBoss/Tomcat).
• Experience with distributed caching or in-memory data grid technologies (Geode, Hazelcast, Redis, Coherence) desirable.
• Linux, SQL and message-queuing systems; design patterns.
• JUnit or equivalent testing frameworks; testing across unit, regression, performance, and integration.
• CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Maven); multi-developer distributed environments.
• Observability/monitoring tooling; secure development practices; PCI-DSS awareness.
• Agile mindset (SAFe/SCRUM); focus on code quality and engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery of complex features across the full software development lifecycle: architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, rollback planning and documentation.
• Design and implement high-performance, scalable Java capabilities; apply patterns and API standards; produce design documentation.
• Debug and troubleshoot across multi-tiered systems; design resilient solutions.
• Lead code/design/trade-off discussions; promote coding standards and reviews.
• Coordinate releases across a follow-the-sun, multi-region model; manage scope and sign-offs.
• Participate in on-call support; lead incident management and remediation; monitor performance.
• Engage with Product Owners; report status and risks; mentor engineers; share knowledge across the team.
• Drive automation of build, operate and run activities; explore new technologies and frameworks.
