Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team to tackle scale, performance, and resilience in our Serverless offering. You will address how nodes communicate, how data is indexed, allocated, and managed across nodes.

You will own projects from design to delivery, collaborating across teams to push shard and petabyte scalability while maintaining safety and liveness in a highly distributed environment.

Qualifications

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and data structures/concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work on complex, highly distributed systems from design to delivery.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate core pieces of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components supporting concurrent and consistent indexing across machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination to preserve performance as nodes move or data shifts.
• Push the limits on shards, nodes, and petabytes Elasticsearch can handle.
• Investigate performance or concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support engineers with hard problems and own investigations end-to-end.
