Job summary

Tyndall National Institute, Ireland’s leading research organisation, seeks a Senior Engineer for the Design & Technology Evaluation (DTE) Group. You will lead IC analysis projects, define routes, and mentor junior staff while interfacing with industry and research partners to advance semiconductor technology evaluation.

Role emphasises sample preparation, cross-sectioning, microscopy and data interpretation, with broad scope to apply methods to photonic chips and advanced packaging.

Qualifications

• BE/BEng in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or MSc in related field.
• Strong knowledge of IC design and CMOS/BCDMOS technologies.
• 10+ years hands-on semiconductor tech or failure analysis experience.
• Ability to manage complex analysis projects and produce clear reports.
• Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex analysis projects from problem definition to route selection.
• Prepare samples, perform analysis and interpret results.
• Interface with industry customers, research groups and programme leads.
• Ensure reports are technically robust and clearly written.
• Support development of DTE capability roadmap and equipment needs.
• Mentor junior engineers and students in the group.
• Maintain laboratory discipline, safety, and data traceability.
• Communicate findings effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to strategic direction of IP-investigation activities.
• Assist with expansion to photonic chips and advanced materials.
