Job summary

The Senior Control & Protection Electrical Design Engineer at TLI Group will lead CP design for HV/MV substations across major Power, Renewables and Utilities projects from the Dublin office, with hybrid working options.

You will own protection and control philosophies, produce schematics, wiring diagrams, relay settings and coordination inputs, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring ESB/EirGrid standards compliance.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Control & Protection / Secondary Design for HV/MV substations.
• Proven experience delivering C&P design on utility or large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Expert-level proficiency in EPLAN for substation secondary design.
• Strong experience in control and protection systems for HV/MV substations.
• Knowledge of protection relays, substation control systems, SCADA/RTUs, and standards (ESB/EirGrid).
• Experience with AutoCAD and MS Office; protective studies or relay tools are beneficial.
• Ability to lead a small design team and manage interfaces to construction and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Act as a Senior C&P Engineer within the Engineering Team.
• Take ownership of CP and secondary design on HV/MV substation projects.
• Review Employer’s Requirements, standards and drawings.
• Lead development of protection and control philosophies and specifications.
• Produce and review deliverables: schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts.
• Specify relay settings and protection coordination inputs.
• Serve as EPLAN superuser and manage templates and databases.
• Ensure designs comply with ESB/EirGrid standards and budgets.
• Provide technical support to project delivery, construction and commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to tender/bid inputs.
