Job summary

Zurich Ireland is seeking a Group Risk Underwriter to join the Corporate Life and Pensions team in Dublin. You will underwrite group risk schemes, assess employer and member risk, and set appropriate terms and loadings in line with guidelines.

You will work with brokers, client managers and internal teams to support profitability and growth, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and high-quality documentation. Office-based role in Blackrock, Co Dublin.

Qualifications

• Significant experience (ideally 5+ years) as an underwriter in group risk/employee benefits.
• Strong understanding of group risk selection, pricing, and portfolio management.
• Proven experience handling complex and large group schemes.
• Ability to interpret data such as claims experience, demographics, and industry risk factors.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills; proficient with spreadsheets and rating tools.
• Clear communication to explain underwriting decisions to non-technical audiences.
• Strong negotiation with brokers and corporate clients.
• High attention to detail and quality.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assess and underwrite group risk cases within delegated authority.
• Evaluate employer and member risk information.
• Set terms, exclusions, and loadings per guidelines.
• Prepare quotations, renewals, and rate reviews.
• Contribute to pricing bases and tools.
• Support portfolio profitability and growth.
• Monitor portfolio performance and claims experience.
• Collaborate with brokers, sales, and client managers to secure business.
• Explain underwriting decisions in client/broker meetings.
• Provide underwriting input for product development and tenders.
• Ensure adherence to underwriting manuals and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain high-quality documentation and audit trails.
• Share knowledge and mentor junior underwriters.
• Stay updated on market trends and medical risk developments.
