Job summary

MWP invites a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our geotechnical sector, supporting energy, road and commercial projects across Ireland. You will contribute from conceptual design through site monitoring, coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver quality geotechnical solutions.

The role requires a strong technical background, EN Standard knowledge, and the ability to manage junior engineers and client relationships. Chartered status is preferred.

Qualifications

  • QQI Level 8 or 9 Qualification in an accredited Engineering programme.
  • Strong technical ability in all aspects of geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience with EN Standards and design codes.
  • Chartered Engineer status preferred.
  • Experience in geotechnical design management and supervision of junior engineers.
  • Project management of geotechnical projects with client liaison.
  • Proficient with CAD/drafting software like AutoCAD.

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Kerry/Limerick

Experience:5-10 years

MWP require a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to help support our civil engineering sector in the design, supervision, and delivery of a broad range of projects, across a wide variety of sectors, including, commercial and public sector, energy, and other civil works.

The position would suit motivated, practical, and adaptable individuals who have ambition to work in a progressive and innovative engineering and environmental consultancy.

Requirements
  • QQI Level 8 or 9 Qualification in an accredited Engineering programme.
  • Good technical ability in all aspects of your field of engineering.
  • Good knowledge and experience of current EN Standards.
  • Chartered Engineer status is preferred.
  • Previous experience in the management of geotechnical design and supervision of junior geotechnical engineers is preferred.
  • Previous experience in the project management of specialist geotechnical projects including Client liaison is preferred.
  • AutoCAD and drafting software experience.
  • Excellent level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Proactive, a good communicator with the ability to work well with others in a multi-disciplinary project team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Full Driving Licence in Category B.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • You will join our geotechnical sector, which is responsible for a wide range of energy, road, and commercial projects throughout Ireland.
  • The successful candidate will be involved in all phases of project development from conceptual design, site investigation, and detailed design, through to on-site monitoring.
  • Aid the civil engineering sector in the design elements for projects to current regulations and design standards.
  • Interpretation of geotechnical data and applying this interpretation to designs.
  • Management of geotechnical design and supervision of junior geotechnical engineers.
  • Project management of specialist geotechnical projects including Client liaison.
  • Managing project delivery, budgets and client relationships
  • Directing the work of junior geotechnical engineers and reviewing their designs, reports, calculations etc.
  • Use Geotechnical Design Software programmes such as Slope/W, Settle 3, P-disp, X-disp, Wallap, GGU Footing, etc.
  • Prepare geotechnical investigation plans including field investigations and laboratory testing.
  • Previous experience in the design of shallow foundations, deep foundations, soil stabilisation, retaining walls, earthworks, slope stability would be an advantage.
  • Familiar with the use of Eurocode 7, TII 600 series, DMRB 600 Series and BS 1377 would be an advantage.
  • Conducting site visits across Ireland and attending meetings across Ireland.
  • Help in the production of drawings and reports.
  • Co-ordinate with engineers of other disciplines and the wider MWP group.
  • Attend meetings with clients, other consultants, and contractors during the course of projects.
  • Ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Prepare design basis memoranda, technical memoranda, and reports, and coordinate report preparation within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Planning and managing CAD documentation, working closely with CAD Technicians
  • Prepare technical specifications and participate in the analysis of bids.
  • Work closely with peers, junior engineers and other discipline engineers to ensure delivery that will meet utility standards, industry standards and meet good engineering practices, policies and procedures.
