Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team of ~12 engineers in the Chat platform within the Agents and Context group. You will manage the team, drive roadmap delivery, and partner with PM, Tech Lead, data science, UX, and other teams to deliver reliable, grounded AI-assisted search experiences.

You will mentor engineers, oversee performance management, and shape team processes to support rapid, high-quality shipping in a fast-moving space.

Qualifications

Proven leadership of software teams with hiring, coaching and performance reviews.
Experience delivering multi-team initiatives in distributed/async environments.
Hands-on technical background to understand TS/Node/React stack and Elasticsearch-based systems.
Familiarity with LLM apps, RAG, agents, evaluation, and context engineering.

Responsibilities

Own delivery of the Chat roadmap, breaking it into milestones and ensuring predictable shipping.
Lead end-to-end hiring for the team, including job descriptions and interview loops.
Coach engineers with regular 1:1s, set expectations, and provide feedback.
Manage performance, promotions, and development plans; address underperformance.
Collaborate with Tech Lead, PM, data science, UX, and other teams on priorities and quality signals.
Improve team processes (planning, async comms, release, on-call) through writing and consensus.
