Job summary

Gaia Talent is seeking a Senior Engineer – Transmission & Distribution in Dublin to lead technical delivery on major HV projects. You will review designs, specify technical requirements and coordinate between project teams, contractors and clients to ensure compliant, safe and efficient delivery.

The role demands experience across substations, overhead lines and HV cable systems, plus strong mentoring and stakeholder skills to drive project success.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong technical knowledge of transmission infrastructure and substations operating at 110kV/220kV/400kV.
• Experience in substations, overhead lines and HV cable systems.
• Ability to assess designs, construction and commissioning against technical, operational and safety requirements.
• Understanding of design deliverables: single line diagrams, protection schemes, interlocking and substation layouts.
• Experience with site inspections, construction monitoring and commissioning activities.
• Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership is desirable.

The Opportunity

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer – Transmission & Distribution to provide technical leadership across major high-voltage transmission projects.

This role offers the opportunity to support the development, review, construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning of critical electricity infrastructure, acting as a key technical interface between project teams, contractors and clients. The successful candidate will provide engineering assurance across a range of transmission assets, including substations, overhead lines and cable systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Review detailed engineering designs to ensure compliance with functional requirements, client specifications and national and international standards.
• Assess and review technical and functional specifications for transmission infrastructure projects.
• Manage technical queries throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and appropriately documented.
• Provide technical guidance and challenge designs where required to maintain high engineering standards.
• Undertake site inspections and monitor construction activities to confirm works are delivered in accordance with approved designs.
• Carry out pre-commissioning and commissioning inspections to verify system readiness and compliance.
• Participate in project reviews, technical audits, factory acceptance tests and approval processes.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to support successful project delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of technical capability within the team.

About You

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
