Reporting to a Director of Service, the Senior Engineer is responsible for the efficient management, direction and development of the directorates/departments and function to which they are assigned. This is a senior management role and managers at this level work within defined parameters relevant to the position, in accordance with Fingal County Councils vision and objectives as set out in its Corporate Plan. Delivery of efficient services and value for money is crucial.

The Senior Engineer will be required to work closely with the Senior Management Team, the Cathaoirleach and Elected Members to deliver the full range of services, implement local policy decisions and deliver on strategic corporate objectives and in accordance with the general policy direction of the elected council.

Main Duties of the Job

Possess a current unendorsed full driving licence (Category B) and/or have access to a vehicle as they may be required to travel in the course of their duties.

An ability to successfully work through the challenges of delivering a significant programme of capital investment in a designated Service area.

An ability to engage successfully with a wide range of stakeholders from different backgrounds and perspectives to deliver on the goal of significant capital investment in a designated Service area.

The management and supervision of staff, ensuring the development of such staff.

Information about the organisation

Fingal is a highly attractive place to live, work, visit and do business. It comprises a geographical area of 450 sq.km stretching from Balbriggan in the north, to Blanchardstown in the west and to Howth in the east. The role of the County Council as provided for in law is to represent, lead and serve the communities of Fingal.

An opportunity now exists in Fingal County Council for the position of Senior Engineer.

Salary Scale effective from 1st June 2026:

Hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 35 hours gross per week.

The annual leave allowance for the position of Senior Engineer is 30 days.
