Job summary

HERO Recruitment Ltd. in Co. Galway seeks a Senior Engineer to join a leading medical device manufacturer.

You will develop, sustain and optimise laser cutting, laser welding and precision grinding processes within a regulated environment. You will lead process development, validation and continuous improvement initiatives and mentor junior staff. The role requires hands-on laser processing experience, GMP/ISO13485 knowledge and strong collaboration with NPI, Quality and Operations.

Qualifications

• Level 8 degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Biomedical or related engineering.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in medical device manufacturing or similarly regulated environment.
• Hands-on experience in metal laser processing, particularly laser cutting and laser welding, with grinding knowledge (essential).
• Strong experience as a senior member of an engineering team.
• Knowledge of process validation, GMP, ISO 13485 and quality systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, project management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of metal laser processes (laser cutting, laser welding, precision grinding).
• Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis and implementing sustainable solutions.
• Drive improvements in process capability, efficiency, quality and cost using Lean and Six Sigma.
• Lead process development, optimisation and validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ).
• Support new product introductions from feasibility to manufacturing transfer.
• Identify, evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and equipment.
• Apply risk management and statistical tools (PFMEA, DOE, SPC).
• Mentor engineers and technicians, with team supervision for Manufacturing Engineering candidates.
• Collaborate with NPI, Quality, Operations and customers to achieve business objectives.
• Manage technical relationships with suppliers and technology providers.
• Ensure compliance with quality, regulatory, health, safety and environmental standards.

Senior Engineer

We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer to join a skilled engineering team within a leading medical device manufacturing site in Spiddal, Co. Galway. The role is open to candidates from either a Manufacturing Engineering or an NPI/Process Development background, with hands-on metal laser processing experience being essential.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, sustaining and optimising laser cutting, laser welding and precision grinding processes, driving continuous improvement, and providing technical leadership and mentoring within the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

Candidate Profile

• Level 8 degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Biomedical or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years' experience within medical device manufacturing or a similarly regulated environment.
• Hands-on experience in metal laser processing, particularly laser cutting and laser welding, with knowledge of grinding (essential).
• Strong tenure of experience as a senior member of an engineering team.
• Supervisory experience is advantageous for Manufacturing Engineering candidates, but not essential for NPI candidates.
• Strong knowledge of process validation, GMP, ISO 13485 and quality systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, project management and communication skills.
