Embankment Group is recruiting a Principal Ecologist for the Munster region. The role combines project leadership, technical delivery and client liaison across a varied portfolio of ecologically focused projects, with hybrid working between home, site and office.

You will guide surveys, deliver assessments and reports, mentor junior staff, shape ecological strategies and contribute to business development. The position requires extensive local ecology experience and a proactive, collaborative

Qualifications

• Degree in ecology, zoology, biology, environmental science or a closely related subject.
• Seven+ years of ecological consultancy experience.
• Experience in a senior or project-leading ecology role.
• Strong knowledge of Irish ecology, planning requirements and environmental legislation.
• Experience with protected species surveys, mitigation and ecological impact assessment.
• Ability to scope, coordinate and deliver ecological fieldwork programmes.
• Experience producing high-quality technical reports to a professional standard.
• Experience managing projects, budgets, resources and delivery programmes.
• Membership of CIEEM at an appropriate level.
• Full driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
• Willingness to travel for site work, meetings and surveys, including out-of-hours work.

Responsibilities

• Manage and deliver medium to large-scale ecology projects from inception to completion.
• Lead and coordinate ecological surveys, assessments and reporting.
• Scope survey requirements and design appropriate fieldwork programmes.
• Prepare and review technical reports (e.g., Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, EcIAs, NIS).
• Provide clear technical advice to clients across planning and biodiversity constraints.
• Act as a key point of contact for ecology matters on assigned projects.
• Manage project budgets, programmes, resources and subcontractors.
• Mentor junior team members and support business development.
