Job summary

Abbott Sligo is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead development of analytics, ML, and AI solutions across Abbott Diabetes Care. You will partner with stakeholders to identify opportunities, design scalable models, and drive data-informed decision making.

You will establish SOPs, governance, and end-to-end data platforms, promoting responsible AI within regulated Life Sciences environments. This role supports Abbott's Data, AI & Analytics strategy and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, CS, Analytics, or related field.
  • Proven experience delivering DS/ML/AI solutions with business impact.
  • Strong hands-on with cloud analytics and governance frameworks.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, prioritize, and deliver advanced analytics and AI initiatives aligned with business goals.

Purpose of the Role

As aSenior Data Scientist, you will lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven solutions that deliver measurable business value across Abbott Diabetes Care.

Working at the intersection of business, technology, and data, you will partner with stakeholders toidentifyopportunities, solve complex business challenges, and drive data-informed decision making. You will play a key role in shaping advanced analytics strategies while delivering innovative solutions that improve operational performance and business outcomes.

This is a unique opportunity to shape and build foundational data capabilities from the ground up. The successful candidate will establish and embed standard work, create and maintain SOPs, and develop scalable end-to-end processes that support consistent, high-quality data management across the organisation. Through these efforts, you will play a key role in enabling Abbott's Data, AI & Analytics strategy, driving the adoption of advanced analytics, AI, self-service reporting, and business intelligence solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Analytics & AI Strategy
  • Identify, prioritise, and deliver advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI initiatives aligned to strategic businessobjectives.

  • Partner with business stakeholders toidentifyopportunities where analytics and AI can deliver measurable business value.

  • Define analytical approaches and success metrics that align with business outcomes.

  • Influence decision-making through actionable insights, predictive analytics, and evidence-based recommendations.

  • Support development of AbbottADCAI and advanced analytics roadmap.

Data Science & Advanced Analytics
  • Design, develop, deploy, and optimise machine learning models, predictive algorithms, and advanced analytical solutions.

  • Apply statistical techniques, forecasting, optimisation, simulation, and machine learning methods to solve complex business problems.

  • Develop scalable analytical approaches using structured and unstructured data.

  • Validate analytical models to ensure accuracy, robustness, explainability, and business relevance.

  • Support industrialisation and operationalisation of analytical solutions in partnership with Data Engineering teams.

Business Partnership & Value Realisation
  • Collaborate with business leaders and SMEs to understand challenges, opportunities, and priorities.

  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear business recommendations and actions.

  • Present insights, risks, opportunities, and value realization outcomes to stakeholders at multiple levels.

  • Challenge assumptions andfacilitatedata-driven decision-making.

  • Define and measure business impact resulting from analytics and AI initiatives.

Responsible AI & Governance
  • Promote responsible, ethical, and compliant use of analytics and AI technologies.

  • Ensure analytical solutions align with Abbott's governance, quality, security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.

  • Partner with Data Governance and Data Product teams toestablishtrusted analytical data foundations.

  • Support model governance, monitoring, and lifecycle management practices.

  • Communicate model assumptions, limitations, and risks transparently.

Innovation, Data Literacy & Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current with emerging developments in AI, Generative AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.

  • Evaluate new tools, technologies, and methodologies that can improve business outcomes.

  • Share knowledge and mentor team members on analytical best practices.

  • Help build organisational data literacy by promoting understanding and adoption of analytics and AI capabilities.

Education & Experience
Essential
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience delivering Data Science, Machine Learning, AI, and Advanced Analytics solutions that drive measurable business outcomes.

  • Strong hands‑on experience with Databricks, AWS, Python, SQL, and modern cloud-based analytics platforms.

  • Expertise in statistical modelling, predictive analytics, model lifecycle management, and deploying AI/ML solutions into production.

  • Strong understanding of Data Governance, Data Quality, Model Governance, and Responsible AI frameworks.

  • Experience working within regulated Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Biotechnology, or Healthcare environments, with knowledge of GxP, CSV, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, ALCOA+, and Quality Management Systems.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and executive communication skills.

Preferred
  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field.

  • Experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), RAG architectures, intelligent automation, and emerging AI technologies.

  • Experience working with operational, manufacturing, supply chain, or healthcare datasets.

  • Expertise in data visualisation and storytelling using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or AWS QuickSight.

  • Familiarity with Oracle enterprise data environments and large-scale cloud data ecosystems.
