Job summary

Abbott in Sligo is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and build scalable data products, pipelines and platforms supporting analytics, AI, and reporting within the Life Sciences domain.

You will collaborate with Data Product Leads, Data Scientists, and IT partners to ensure quality, governance, and regulatory compliance (GxP, CSV, FDA/EC). The role demands strong data engineering expertise and ability to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, software engineering, information systems, or related discipline.
• Significant experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale data engineering solutions.
• Strong experience with AWS Cloud technologies, Databricks, Oracle databases, Python, Spark, and SQL.
• Experience implementing Data Governance and Data Quality practices.
• Experience supporting AI, machine learning, analytics, and reporting solutions.
• Regulated Life Sciences exposure and knowledge of GxP, CSV, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, and Data Integrity principles.

Responsibilities

• Data Engineering Strategy & Delivery: design, develop, and maintain scalable data products, pipelines, and platforms that support business, analytics, and AI use cases.
• Data Quality, Governance & Reliability: implement data quality controls, monitoring, and validation; ensure data ownership and compliance with governance and privacy requirements.
• AI, Analytics & Digital Enablement: build data foundations to support analytics, ML, AI, automation, and self-service reporting.
• Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership: partner with business stakeholders; mentor junior engineers; promote engineering best practices.
• Innovation & Continuous Improvement: stay informed on cloud platforms and AI-enabled capabilities; drive data literacy and adoption.
