Job summary

Optum Ireland, part of UnitedHealth Group, is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build and optimize scalable data sources and pipelines within our data platform (Snowflake, Azure, Airflow). You will collaborate with data, architecture, and BI stakeholders to deliver robust data solutions and automated processes.

You will contribute to data quality, masking, and governance while supporting hybrid work arrangements across Dublin and Letterkenny. Strong SQL, Python, and CI/CD experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Database Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proven hands‑on experience as a Data Engineer.
• Demonstrated proficiency in SQL, including window functions and advanced SQL.
• Knowledge of data modeling, warehousing, data architecture, masking, and implementation methodologies.
• Solid proficiency in Python.
• Experience building data pipelines and ETL/ELT with Snowflake and complex SQL.
• Experience with Python, Scala, Java, or similar languages.
• Proven experience developing CI/CD pipelines using Git/GitHub Actions.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
• Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Integrate data from multiple on prem and cloud sources and systems to create a unified data foundation for analysis and reporting.
• Develop data transformation routines to clean, normalize, and aggregate data for analysis, reporting or ML tasks.
• Implement data de-identification/masking per standards.
• Develop monitoring tools to automate error handling and ensure data integrity.
• Use data quality tools like Great Expectations or Soda to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
• Create, maintain & monitor data pipelines using Airflow & Snowflake as primary tools.
• Design optimal SQL stored procedures to fulfill use cases.
• Create logical & physical data models to maintain data integrity.
• CI/CD pipeline creation & automation using Git & GitHub Actions.
