Job summary

Google in Dublin is seeking a Senior Data Center Power Protection Controls Engineer to shape the data center power architecture and implement advanced protective controls across European locations.

You will lead design reviews, perform R&D for future-ready facilities, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with facilities teams to ensure reliable, high-availability operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience working on critical infrastructure projects related to process improvements.
• 5 years of experience in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing using RTDS, OPAL-RT, or similar platforms.
• 5 years of experience in protection and control engineering.
• Experience with mission critical systems (24x7 and no-fail) and operations.

Responsibilities

• Define data center system‑level, product architecture, and research and development, while helping to develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
• Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods of data center equipment and facilities.
• Ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns, etc.).
• Investigate and integrate renewable power generation and carbon-free storage technologies, developing innovative ways to protect and control these new energy frontiers.
• Act as the technical lead for execution and field testing teams, driving the commissioning efforts for complex power system protection schemes.
