Job summary

BoyleSports in Ireland offers a hybrid remote role for a Senior Cyber Security Engineer. You will join the Cyber Defence team to build, tune and operate detections and response.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience as a SOC analyst / detection engineer / threat hunter / incident responder with concrete detections and hunts.
• Strong working knowledge of at least one major SIEM/XDR platform; Cortex XDR/XSIAM (Palo Alto) ideal; Splunk, Sentinel, Elastic or Chronicle acceptable.
• Experience investigating in AWS — CloudTrail, GuardDuty, VPC flow logs, EKS audit logs, IAM analysis; able to read JSON event data.
• Scripting in Python or equivalent to parse evidence and build small tools.
• Solid grounding in MITRE ATT&CK and structured investigation; able to write clear incident timelines.
• Calm under pressure; capable on bridge calls at 03:00.

Responsibilities

• Detection engineering: design, write, test and tune detections across Cortex XDR / XSIAM, cloud telemetry, identity telemetry, endpoint, network and logs.
• Threat hunting and investigation: run structured hunts, lead root-cause analyses of alerts escalated by MSSP, document findings for future use.
• Incident response: stand on the bridge during P1/P2 incidents, drive containment and eradication, maintain evidence trail for regulator notification.
• Automation and SOAR: build and maintain playbooks, automate triage and notifications, integrate tooling with wider stack.
• MSSP partnership and purple teaming: interface with Palo Alto SOC; run exercises and translate red findings into detections and tested response.
