Job summary

BoyleSports is seeking a working Head of Cyber Defence to lead the SOC, drive detection engineering, and direct the Palo Alto MSSP. This role commands incident response on the bridge, sets security policy and risk appetite, and partners with Architecture, Engineering, and Infrastructure within the CCoE.

The role requires deep hands-on security experience, hands-on incident leadership, and strong communication to the Board.

Qualifications

• Hands-on defender with SOC leadership experience.
• Depth in detection/response tooling (SIEM/XDR, SOAR).
• Strong AWS security knowledge and CLI proficiency.
• MITRE ATT&CK mapped attacker tradecraft understanding.
• Experience managing outsourced SOCs and vendor accountability.
• Excellent board-level communication.

Responsibilities

• Set BoyleSports cyber security strategy, risk appetite, policy and controls.
• Oversee security architecture/engineering within CCoE and enforce security patterns.
• Own security controls framework and regulator relationships (Ireland, UK).
• Lead in-house SOC operations, backlog, threat hunts, and incident bridge response.
• Manage Palo Alto MSSP relationship, playbooks, SLAs, and deliverables.
• Drive security-aware culture with targeted training and engineering alignment.
