Job summary

LexisNexis Risk Solutions is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer II to drive reliability, performance, security, and scalability of cloud data platforms. You will work across AWS services, implement IaC, and mentor junior engineers while solving complex production challenges.

Based in Ireland (Dublin), you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to automate operations and improve service resilience in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating managed cloud database services (Aurora MySQL, RDS, Redshift, DynamoDB, ElastiCache).
• Strong SQL skills: design, optimization, troubleshooting, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or similar.
• Experience designing monitoring and observability solutions.
• Knowledge of high availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery concepts.
• Experience in on-call rotation, incident response, and root cause analysis.
• Experience with IaC (CloudFormation or Terraform) and CI/CD for database changes.
• Experience implementing database security and access governance in production.

Responsibilities

• Participate in on-call rotation and act as senior escalation point.
• Plan and execute failover testing within/between AWS regions.
• Automate recovery using IaC and configuration management.

• Contribute to post-mortems, RCAs, and mentoring of juniors.

About the Role

The Database Engineering team is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer II to help ensure the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of cloud data platforms supporting business-critical and customer-facing applications. In this role, you will combine reliability engineering and hands‑on cloud database expertise across AWS services, helping to improve service resilience, automate operational processes, and support high‑performing production environments. You will also collaborate across engineering teams and provide guidance to colleagues while contributing to operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Create monitoring queries and establish service‑level baselines for critical database services
• Design and implement solutions that improve availability, fault tolerance, and recoverability across AWS database platforms
• Participate in on-call rotation to assist in the recovery of major production incidents and act as a senior escalation point
• Plan and execute failover testing within and between AWS regions
• Automate the recovery of systems and components using Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management
• Implement automation and execute code in production environments to reduce manual effort and operational toil
• Design and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions, including reusable, code-defined dashboards
• Contribute to post-mortems, root cause analyses, reliability engineering documentation, and mentoring of junior engineers

Requirements

• Hands‑on experience operating managed cloud database services such as Aurora MySQL, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, Amazon DynamoDB, or Amazon ElastiCache
• Strong SQL skills with experience in database design, optimization, and troubleshooting, including schema design, query tuning, indexing, locks, and performance bottlenecks
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or a comparable language
• Experience designing and implementing monitoring and observability solutions
• Solid understanding of high availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery concepts
• Experience participating in on-call rotation, incident response, and root cause analysis
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code using CloudFormation or Terraform and CI/CD practices for database change management
• Experience implementing database security, access governance, resiliency patterns, or supporting high-availability production environments
