Job summary

LexisNexis Risk Solutions in Ireland is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer II to strengthen reliability and scalability of cloud data platforms for business-critical apps. You will combine reliability engineering with hands-on cloud DB expertise across AWS services and mentor peers.

Responsibilities include automation, monitoring, and improving availability while collaborating with engineering teams to raise production resilience and drive operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Hands-on with managed cloud DB services (Aurora MySQL, RDS, Redshift, ElastiCache).
• Strong SQL, database design, tuning, and troubleshooting skills.
• Scripting and automation proficiency with Python or Bash.

Responsibilities

• Create monitoring queries and establish baselines for critical database services.
• Improve availability, fault tolerance, and recoverability across AWS databases.
• Participate in on-call rotation and act as senior escalation point.
• Plan and execute cross-region failover testing.
• Automate recovery using IaC and configuration management.
• Develop monitoring, alerting, and observability with code-defined dashboards.
• Contribute to post-mortems and root cause analyses; mentor juniors.

About The Role

The Database Engineering team is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer II to help ensure the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of cloud data platforms supporting business-critical and customer-facing applications. In this role, you will combine reliability engineering and hands-on cloud database expertise across AWS services, helping to improve service resilience, automate operational processes, and support high-performing production environments. You will also collaborate across engineering teams and provide guidance to colleagues while contributing to operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Create monitoring queries and establish service-level baselines for critical database services
• Design and implement solutions that improve availability, fault tolerance, and recoverability across AWS database platforms
• Participate in on-call rotation to assist in the recovery of major production incidents and act as a senior escalation point
• Plan and execute failover testing within and between AWS regions
• Automate the recovery of systems and components using Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management
• Implement automation and execute code in production environments to reduce manual effort and operational toil
• Design and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions, including reusable, code-defined dashboards
• Contribute to post-mortems, root cause analyses, reliability engineering documentation, and mentoring of junior engineers

Requirements

• Hands-on experience operating managed cloud database services such as Aurora MySQL, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Dyna
• moDB, or Amazon ElastiCache
• Strong SQL skills with experience in database design, optimization, and troubleshooting, including schema design, query tuning, indexing, locks, and performance bottlenecks
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or a comparable language
• Experience designing and implementing monitoring and observability solutions
• Solid understanding of high availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery concepts
• Experience participating in on-call rotation, incident response, and root cause analysis
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code using CloudFormation or Terraform and CI/CD practices for database change management
• Experience implementing database security, access governance, resiliency patterns, or supporting high-availability production environments

Primary Location Base Pay Range: Home Based - Ireland €65,200 - €108,600. If performed in any following locations: Ireland - Dublin (Rockfield Central), the base pay range is €68,400 - €114,000.
