Job summary

Alexander Associates is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to work on water and wastewater infrastructure. The role is Fully Remote (UK) under a Long-Term Contract, focusing on civil design tasks, calculations, layouts and documentation for water projects.

You will mentor junior engineers and coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation, Structural and Commissioning teams to deliver integrated projects safely and cost-effectively.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in civil engineering design within water, wastewater or utilities.
• Understanding of treatment works, pumping stations and related infrastructure.
• Experience producing and reviewing civil calculations, reports and drawings.
• Ability to develop practical, buildable solutions considering safety and whole-life cost.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design tasks and packages to agreed technical standards, budgets and programmes.
• Develop civil designs, calculations, layouts, specifications and technical documentation for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Produce cost-effective civil solutions that consider constructability, safety, operational requirements and whole-life costs.
• Review and assure civil design outputs within your area of authority, ensuring quality and compliance with company and industry standards.
• Coordinate civil design activities with Process, Mechanical, EICA, Structural, Digital and Commissioning teams to support integrated project delivery.
• Identify and manage technical risks, design issues and opportunities for optimisation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support the design of civil infrastructure including reinforced concrete structures, buried structures, drainage systems, pipelines, earthworks, highways and site development works.
• Mentor junior engineers, graduates and apprentices, sharing knowledge and supporting technical development across the team.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, discipline leads, project teams, suppliers and site teams.
