Job summary

Alexander Associates is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to work on water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The role is fully remote (UK) with a long-term contract, offering leadership in civil design and collaboration across Process, Mechanical, EICA, Structural, Digital and Commissioning teams.

You will mentor junior engineers and drive practical, buildable solutions while maintaining safety and whole-life costs.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in civil engineering design within water and wastewater sectors.
• Ability to develop practical, buildable civil solutions with safety and whole-life costs in mind.
• Experience producing and reviewing civil calculations, reports, specs and drawings.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and supporting project delivery.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution, ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design tasks and packages to technical standards, budgets and programmes.
• Develop civil designs, calculations, layouts, specifications and documentation for water and wastewater projects.
• Produce cost-effective civil solutions considering constructability, safety and whole-life costs.
• Review and assure civil design outputs for quality and compliance.
• Coordinate civil design activities with Process, Mechanical, EICA, Structural, Digital and Commissioning teams.
• Identify and manage technical risks and opportunities for optimisation.
• Support the design of civil infrastructure including concrete structures, drainage, pipelines and earthworks.
• Mentor junior engineers, graduates and apprentices and share knowledge.

Senior Civil Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design tasks and packages to agreed technical standards, budgets and programmes.
• Develop civil engineering designs, calculations, layouts, specifications and technical documentation for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Produce cost-effective civil solutions that consider constructability, safety, operational requirements and whole-life costs.
• Review and assure civil design outputs within your area of authority, ensuring quality and compliance with company and industry standards.
• Coordinate civil design activities with Process, Mechanical, EICA, Structural, Digital and Commissioning teams to support integrated project delivery.
• Identify and manage technical risks, design issues and opportunities for optimisation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support the design of civil infrastructure including reinforced concrete structures, buried structures, drainage systems, pipelines, earthworks, highways and site development works.
• Mentor junior engineers, graduates and apprentices, sharing knowledge and supporting technical development across the team.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, discipline leads, project teams, suppliers and site teams.

Requirements

• Strong experience in civil engineering design within the water, wastewater, utilities or a similarly regulated engineering environment.
• Good understanding of civil engineering principles relating to treatment works, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
• Experience producing and reviewing civil calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings and design documentation.
• Ability to develop practical, economic and buildable civil engineering solutions that consider safety, sustainability, constructability and whole-life cost.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and supporting project delivery.
• Experience leading, checking or mentoring engineers within a civil or related engineering discipline.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution, ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership.
• Relevant Civil Engineering degree preferred, or a minimum HND in a related discipline.
• Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and commercially
