Job summary

Standard Life plc is seeking a Calculations Specialist on a 2-year fixed-term contract to support day-to-day calculation activities and a migration programme. You will translate complex calculation logic into clear, testable specifications and work with business, development and testing teams to ensure accurate outcomes.

The role requires strong numeracy, Excel/VBA skills, and experience with governance, documentation and QA across calculation outputs. Hybrid work arrangement offered.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in designing, analysing or validating complex financial calculations.
• Ability to interpret legacy calculation logic and translate into precise specifications.
• Numerate with the ability to craft complex formulae and methodologies.
• Advanced Excel skills; VBA experience desirable.
• Experience reviewing source code with technical teams.
• Strong requirements and process-mapping skills (Word/Visio).
• Experience in test design, test evidence and defect investigation.
• Meticulous attention to documentation, version control and QA.

Responsibilities

• Act as calculations SME, input across business, tech, data and testing teams.
• Analyse, design and validate complex calculations per product rules and terms.
• Assess risks and apply controls in calculation solutions.
• Investigate and remediate calculation issues with root-cause analysis.
• Maintain and develop controlled calculation tools and spreadsheets.
• Governance, version control and QA across specifications and outputs.
• Provide clear technical input to governance forums and stakeholders.
• Keep up-to-date with applicable legislation and policy terms.
