Job Description: Senior Building Services Engineer
Our client is a leading global biopharmaceutical organisation focused on developing and manufacturing innovative medicines for patients worldwide. Their South Dublin facility is a highly regulated, state-of-the-art manufacturing site supporting the production and supply of advanced biologic medicines.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Building Services Engineer to support building services and facilities-related engineering activities at a major biopharmaceutical manufacturing site in South Dublin.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across mechanical and electrical building services, supporting the design, coordination, installation and delivery of infrastructure upgrades and capital projects. The role will involve working closely with Engineering, Facilities, Maintenance, Construction, EHS, Quality and external contractors to ensure building systems are safe, compliant, reliable and aligned with operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and engineering support across building services, facilities and infrastructure projects.
- Support the design, specification, installation, commissioning and handover of mechanical and electrical building systems.
- Coordinate building services requirements across HVAC, electrical, lighting, fire protection, water, drainage, building-management and life-safety systems.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, design calculations, technical submittals and contractor proposals.
- Ensure building-services designs comply with site standards, applicable legislation, engineering codes and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate interfaces between building services, process utilities, manufacturing equipment, architectural works and structural elements.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to establish project requirements, technical scope and user needs.
- Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk management and technical decision-making.
- Provide technical input throughout project design, procurement, construction, commissioning and close-out.
- Manage and coordinate engineering consultants, specialist contractors and equipment vendors.
- Monitor construction and installation activities to ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with approved designs and specifications.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, safety reviews and project coordination meetings.
- Identify technical risks, design clashes and potential delivery issues, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Support commissioning, qualification and operational-readiness activities where required.
- Review testing, commissioning and handover documentation, including drawings, certificates and operation and maintenance manuals.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of building-services performance or reliability issues.
- Assist with change controls, deviations and other regulated engineering documentation where applicable.
- Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with site EHS, Quality and Good Manufacturing Practice requirements.
- Promote continuous improvement, energy efficiency, system reliability and sustainable engineering practices.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience delivering building-services or facilities-engineering projects within a complex industrial environment.
- Previous experience within pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical or another highly regulated industry is strongly preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems.
- Experience with HVAC, electrical distribution, lighting, fire-protection, water, drainage, building-management and life-safety systems.
- Demonstrated experience supporting projects through design, construction, commissioning and handover.
- Strong understanding of applicable building regulations, engineering standards and health and safety requirements.
- Experience reviewing engineering designs, technical specifications, contractor submissions and commissioning documentation.
- Knowledge of GMP environments and regulated change-control processes would be advantageous.
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors and project stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving, organisation and technical decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a cross-functional project team.
- Proficiency with relevant engineering, drawing-review and project-management systems.
Contract Information
- Rate: TBC dependent on level of skills and experience.
- Start Date: ASAP.
- Contract Length: 12 months contract, with potential for an extension.
- Schedule: Full time, hybrid work model.
