Job summary

Dillon Engineering Services is seeking an experienced Senior HVAC / Mechanical Design Engineer in Dublin for a hybrid contract role. You will lead HVAC and mechanical design across project phases, and deliver engineering documents including A&IDs and P&IDs, with responsibility for energy efficiency and BMS concepts.

You will specify equipment, manage design deliverables, mentor junior engineers, and support proposals and client coordination in pharmaceutical and semiconductor environments.

Qualifications

• Level 8 degree in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer status preferred or progressing toward chartership.
• Experience leading HVAC and utilities design in pharma/semiconductor sectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead HVAC and mechanical design across concept to detailed design phases.

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior HVAC / Mechanical Design Engineer to support the successful delivery of complex engineering projects within pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and advanced manufacturing environments.

This position will take ownership of HVAC and mechanical engineering activities across multiple project phases, from early concept development through to detailed design and project execution. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, ensure engineering quality standards are maintained, and collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to deliver high-performing facility and utility solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead HVAC and mechanical engineering design activities throughout concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases
• Produce and develop engineering documentation including A&IDs and P&IDs
• Specify HVAC equipment including AHUs, mechanical plant systems, and associated utility piping infrastructure
• Perform energy assessments and identify opportunities to optimise efficiency across new and existing installations
• Develop Building Management System (BMS) operational philosophies and control sequences
• Deliver fire protection and associated mechanical system designs in accordance with project requirements
• Manage discipline deliverables including drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, and technical documentation
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineering team members
• Coordinate effectively with clients, vendors, project teams, and multidisciplinary engineering groups
• Support business development initiatives through technical input into proposals and presentations

Requirements

• Level 8 Degree qualification in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related discipline
• Chartered Engineer status preferred or actively progressing toward accreditation
• Demonstrated experience leading HVAC and utilities system design projects within pharmaceutical and/or semiconductor sectors

Strong working knowledge of:

• Cleanroom HVAC systems
• Air Handling Unit (AHU) selection and specialist ventilation systems
• Chilled water and glycol distribution systems
• Steam, hot water, and cooling water systems
• Compressed air generation and distribution systems
• Mechanical utility plant including chillers, boilers, compressors, cooling towers, and pumps
• Experience completing engineering risk assessments, constructability reviews, and safety evaluations
• Ability to prepare tender documentation and construction issue packages
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to lead technical discussions
