Job summary

Fresco is seeking a senior backend engineer to shape KitchenOS, a multi-sided smart kitchen platform. You will design ~20 Lambda-based Python microservices, define domain event patterns, and own API design, data schemas, and cost-optimized architecture.

You’ll report to the Engineering Manager for Platform & Firmware, mentor teammates, and participate in on-call duties to keep services reliable as Fresco scales globally.

Qualifications

• Typically 5+ years designing and building backend systems at scale with AWS, focusing on services and architecture trade-offs.
• Fluent in infrastructure-as-code, using CDK and Terraform, with deployment pipelines.
• Fluent in Python with strict typing (Pydantic v2, pyrefly).
• Experience with DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Shape the architecture of ~20 Lambda-based Python microservices (Python 3.14) across device control, cooking sessions, media, recipes, and auth.
• Design domain event patterns across services using EventBridge, SQS, SNS with deliberate delivery semantics.
• Own schema and API design, improve shared abstractions (API Gateway, VPC, cache, DynamoDB tables) and drive direction via design docs.
• Participate in on-call rotation and maintain self-service deployment and alerting.
• Design for cost, right-size memory/timeout, avoid noisy events, and catch cost regressions with Cost Explorer and Datadog.
• Grow the team's capabilities through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
