Job summary

Camunda is hiring a Backend Senior Software Engineer on the Data Layer team to design, build, and evolve the storage and query layer behind Camunda 8. You will work across relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch and ensure data is fast, accurate, and scalable for monitoring and new agent-driven automation.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of backend experience.
• Deep experience with relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Proven experience leading medium-to-large engineering initiatives end-to-end.
• Strong ability to diagnose slow queries and index usage.
• Strong communication in a remote‑first environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend data layer services for Camunda 8's process data.
• Own end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives with cross-team collaboration.
• Evolve storage and access of process data for customers' needs.
• Improve secondary storage performance and scalability as usage grows.
• Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations with SRE and Support.
