Job summary

Jobgether is partnering to recruit a Senior Back-end Product Engineer (PHP, Symfony) based in Ireland. You will own backend product development end-to-end within a mature B2B workflow platform, shaping core systems, APIs, and data models while collaborating across teams to deliver reliable experiences and AI-powered improvements.

You’ll combine hands-on engineering with architectural decisions, contribute to testing and release processes, and help drive production-readiness and observability

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Back-end Product Engineer (PHP, Symfony) based in Ireland.

This role offers end-to-end ownership of backend product development within a mature B2B workflow automation platform.
You'll work on core systems spanning workflow automation, offline synchronization, document processing, e-signatures, and enterprise integrations.
From understanding customer problems to designing, shipping, operating, and improving solutions, you’ll have broad technical ownership.
The position combines hands-on engineering with architectural decision-making, product thinking, and continuous improvement.
You’ll work across backend, frontend, mobile, support, and other teams to deliver reliable experiences for customers.
AI is an integral part of the engineering workflow, supporting development, testing, refactoring, investigation, and documentation.

Accountabilities

• Own backend features end-to-end, from understanding customer problems and designing solutions through production release and continuous improvement.
• Design scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend services, APIs, and data models.
• Scope and decompose work independently, make architectural decisions, and present technical solutions to the team.
• Challenge requirements and technical approaches when simpler, more effective solutions are possible.
• Develop new functionality while refactoring existing systems, improving code quality and expanding test coverage.
• Use customer feedback, data, logs, and production insights to investigate issues and guide product and technical decisions.
• Incorporate AI tools into daily development for coding, refactoring, code reviews, testing, documentation, and technical investigations, while helping strengthen AI practices across the team.
• Improve development workflows through automation, stronger observability and alerting, and more effective release processes.
• Participate in shared on-call and support rotations, investigating production incidents and customer-reported issues, identifying root causes, and implementing long-term solutions.
• Prepare release plans and coordinate deployments.
• Collaborate with Backend, Frontend, iOS, Android, Support, and other teams to deliver reliable product experiences.
• Proactively propose engineering initiatives, improve development practices, and share technical knowledge with colleagues.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including ownership of complex features or services from solution design through production.
• Strong proficiency in PHP and Symfony, with solid knowledge of system and API design, design patterns, clean code practices, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
• Hands‑on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, SQS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, and IAM, plus familiarity with Kubernetes and serverless architectures.
• Strong debugging and profiling capabilities, including experience with tools such as Xdebug and Blackfire.
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and application observability.
• Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and frameworks such as ExpressJS or NestJS.
• Demonstrated daily use of AI in software development, with the ability to explain how AI is used, what tasks are delegated, and how outputs are validated; experience building AI/LLM-powered product features is a plus.
• Good understanding of application security and OWASP principles; familiarity with ISO 27001, SOC 2, or comparable security standards is advantageous.
• Strong product mindset and autonomy, with the ability to start from a problem, design a solution, make sound technical decisions, and drive delivery through production.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute to technical discussions and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
