Senior Architect: Design Lead for Large-Scale MMC Projects

Job summary

Conack, a leading Design & Build contractor in Ireland, seeks an experienced Senior Architect to own the design process from tender to handover across healthcare, residential and mixed-use sectors. You will coordinate diverse design teams, ensure buildability, compliance and excellence in delivery.

Reporting to senior management, you will drive MMC adoption, lead design coordination meetings, manage external consultants and align design with client requirements, budget and programme.

Responsibilities

• Design Leadership
• Lead the design process from tender through pre-construction, construction and project handover.
• Develop, coordinate and continuously improve project designs to maximise quality, efficiency, programme and value.
• Provide technical leadership throughout the design lifecycle.
• Drive innovation through Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and other emerging construction technologies.
• Review design solutions to ensure buildability, cost effectiveness and compliance with client requirements and statutory regulations.
• Identify and resolve design issues proactively before they impact programme or construction.
• Design Team Management
• Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary external design consultants throughout each project.
• Lead and coordinate architects, structural and civil engineers, building services (M&E) consultants, acoustics consultants, PSDP, DAC consultants and other specialist designers.
• Chair design coordination meetings and ensure timely delivery of design information.
• Monitor consultant performance, design programmes and deliverables.
• Ensure all design documentation is coordinated, accurate and issued in accordance with project programmes.
• Construction Delivery & Collaboration
• Work closely with Conack's project management and site teams to ensure design intent is successfully translated into construction.
• Provide technical support to construction teams throughout project delivery.
• Coordinate design changes and manage design-related queries during construction.
• Ensure effective communication between consultants, clients and internal stakeholders.
• Support successful project delivery through proactive problem-solving and collaborative working.
• Significant experience in a Design Manager or Senior Architect role within the Design & Build sector.
• Experience delivering large-scale residential, healthcare, commercial or mixed-use developments.
• Strong technical understanding of building design, construction methodologies and project delivery.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary consultant teams.
• Excellent knowledge of Irish Building Regulations, planning requirements and statutory compliance.
• Strong understanding of MMC and innovative construction practices.
• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
• A proactive, solution-focused approach with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
