Job summary

Toast is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Card Readers to design, build, and maintain high-throughput payment integrations on our Android platform. You will work with hardware SDKs and cross-functional teams to ensure fast, reliable, and secure card payments.

You will contribute to architecture decisions, drive best practices, and mentor engineers while delivering value to Toast customers in a hybrid, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Expert-level proficiency in Kotlin, Java, and JVM languages.
• Deep knowledge of multi-threading/concurrency (Coroutines a plus).
• Experience in large Android projects with clear domain boundaries and testable modules.
• Track record of robust SDK integrations and public APIs design.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and roll out high-performance Kotlin applications.
• Lead technical discussions on best practices, performance, and security.
• Collaborate with backend, product, UX/UI, and QA to deliver seamless payment experiences.
• Optimize mobile payment flows for security, speed, and reliability.
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct code reviews to improve practices.
• Ensure PCI-DSS compliance and security standards.
