The Job

  • Act as a subject matter expert in one or more specialty areas relevant to STR reporting (e.g., sanctions, AML, CFT, tax fraud), advising the team on complex typologies and reporting nuances.

  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex or ambiguous STR determinations, providing guidance to Analysts on reportability and regulatory interpretation.

  • Own the preparation, quality review, and filing of high-complexity STRs, ensuring narratives meet regulatory standards for accuracy, completeness, and defensibility.

  • Determine whether cases require referral to Enhanced Due Diligence, Compliance, Legal, or law enforcement, and own that handoff.

  • Serve as a key point of contact for regulator and law enforcement inquiries related to STR filings, drafting or reviewing formal responses.

  • Mentor, coach, and support Analyst I and II team members through onboarding, real-time feedback, QA calibration, and hands‑on guidance during escalations.

  • Proactively identify and elevate operational gaps, policy ambiguities, or workflow inefficiencies in STR processes, partnering with leadership to drive and implement scalable solutions.

  • Monitor and interpret regulatory and legislative changes affecting STR/SAR obligations, translating them into updated procedures.

  • Identify emerging financial crime trends and typologies, sharing insights across teams to improve detection and reporting practices.

  • Demonstrate sound judgment in managing information, identifying emergent risks, and escalating issues through the appropriate channels.

You

  • 3-7 years of experience in regulatory/STR reporting, financial crime investigations, transaction monitoring, or compliance.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent supplemental work experience.

  • C1+ fluency in English and French is a requirement.

  • Proven experience preparing and filing STRs/SARs or equivalent regulatory reports, including complex or high-risk cases.

  • Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g. Looker, SQL, Excel) and transaction monitoring or case management systems.

  • Deep knowledge of AML, KYC, and sanctions regulations, and jurisdiction‑specific STR/SAR requirements.

  • Excellent narrative writing skills and experience representing findings to regulators or law enforcement.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting to senior internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong ethical standards and discretion when handling sensitive information.

Preferred:

  • Professional certifications such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or equivalent are strongly preferred.

  • Direct experience liaising with regulators, FIUs, or law enforcement on STR/SAR matters.

  • Familiarity with machine learning or AI‑driven tools for fraud detection and their regulatory implications.

  • Experience mentoring, training, or providing quality review for junior analysts.
