Job summary

Unum Ireland is seeking a Senior AI Engineer in Carlow to shape and deliver AI-powered solutions across the organization. You will design AI architectures, develop intelligent applications, and establish best practices for enterprise AI capabilities.

The role focuses on Generative AI, LLMs, MLOps, and AWS cloud services, with responsibility for scalable, secure, and production-ready implementations while collaborating with data scientists and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelors in CS/Engineering/Data Science/Math or related field.
• 7+ years in Software/ML/AI engineering or related technical field.
• Proven production AI/ML solutions in cloud environments.
• Strong Python with major AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn).
• Hands-on with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, AI Agents, or vector search.
• Experience building MLOps/LLMOps pipelines, CI/CD, model lifecycle management.
• Strong AWS experience (SageMaker, Bedrock, Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3).
• Experience with APIs, microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy enterprise-scale AI/ML solutions (Generative AI/LLM).
• Build AI apps using RAG, AI Agents, vector search, and enterprise knowledge assistants.
• Develop AI apps on AWS using Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3.
• Lead MLOps/LLMOps practices: deployment, monitoring, versioning, lifecycle management.
• Design APIs, integrations, and cloud-native services for AI capabilities.
• Ensure scalable, secure, reliable AI solutions with governance.

As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in designing AI architectures, developing intelligent applications, and establishing best practices that advance our AI capabilities across the enterprise.

The Role

• Design, develop, and deploy enterprise-scale AI and Machine Learning solutions, including Generative AI and LLM-powered applications.
• Build AI solutions using modern architectures such as RAG, AI Agents, vector search, and enterprise knowledge assistants.
• Develop and optimise AI applications on AWS using services such as Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, ECS/EKS, and S3.
• Lead the implementation of robust MLOps and LLMOps practices, including model deployment, monitoring, versioning, and life-cycle management.
• Design and develop APIs, integrations, and cloud-native services that enable AI capabilities across the business.
• Ensure AI solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and aligned with responsible AI and governance standards.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists, and engineering teams while mentoring colleagues and promoting engineering best practice

What You Offer

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, AI Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proven experience delivering production AI and Machine Learning solutions in cloud environments.
• Strong Python development skills and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, LangChain, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on experience building Generative AI solutions, including LLMs, RAG architectures, AI Agents, or vector search technologies.
• Experience designing and supporting MLOps/LLMOps pipelines, CI/CD automation, and model lifecycle management.
• Strong AWS experience, including services such as SageMaker, Bedrock, Lambda, ECS/EKS, and S3.
• Experience with modern software engineering practices, including APIs, microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code technologies such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
