Job summary

Unum Technology Centre in Carlow seeks an experienced AI/ML Engineer to design, develop, and deploy enterprise-scale AI and ML solutions, including Generative AI, LLM-powered apps, and RAG architectures.

You will lead MLOps practices, build APIs and cloud-native services on AWS, and collaborate with data scientists and engineers while mentoring peers to uphold engineering best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, AI Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience delivering production AI/ML in cloud environments.
• Strong Python development skills with modern AI/ML frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG architectures, AI Agents, or vector search.
• Experience with MLOps/LLMOps pipelines, CI/CD automation, and model lifecycle management.
• Strong AWS experience including SageMaker, Bedrock, Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3.

Responsibilities

The Role

Design, develop, and deploy enterprise-scale AI and Machine Learning solutions, including Generative AI and LLM-powered applications. Build AI solutions using modern architectures such as RAG, AI Agents, vector search, and enterprise knowledge assistants. Develop and optimise AI applications on AWS using services such such as Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, ECS/EKS, and S3. Lead the implementation of robust MLOps and LLMOps practices, including model deployment, monitoring, versioning, and lifecycle management. Design and develop APIs, integrations, and cloud-native services that enable AI capabilities across the business. Ensure AI solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and aligned with responsible AI and governance standards. Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists, and engineering teams while mentoring colleagues and promoting engineering best practice.

What You Offer

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, AI Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proven experience delivering production AI and Machine Learning solutions in cloud environments.
• Strong Python development skills and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, LangChain, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on experience building Generative AI solutions, including LLMs, RAG architectures, AI Agents, or vector search technologies.
• Experience designing and supporting MLOps/LLMOps pipelines, CI/CD automation, and model lifecycle management.
• Strong AWS experience, including services such as SageMaker, Bedrock, Lambda, ECS/EKS, and S3.
• Experience with modern software engineering practices, including APIs, microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code technologies such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
