We are a growing SME business and finance consultancy based in Co. Westmeath. Our clients are predominantly SME businesses across a diverse range of sectors including food, hospitality, technology, marketing, logistics, manufacturing and education.
We promote flexibility, autonomy and work-life balance. In fact, we aim to have everyone out of the office on time, every day.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Qualified Accountant to join our growing team as Senior/Lead Accountant. This is a key role in the development of our practice and will suit someone who enjoys combining technical accounting and tax work with team leadership, client relationship management and the commercial side of running a growing practice.
Reporting to the Managing Director, you will take day-to-day ownership of workflow across the accounts function, mentor a small team, oversee a portfolio of clients and help ensure work is delivered efficiently, accurately and on time. You will also play an active role in identifying opportunities to broaden our services and develop new client relationships.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and support a team of six, helping to allocate work, manage priorities, develop staff capability and maintain high standards of client service.
- Oversee practice workflow, including work planning, deadlines, accounts production, tax return preparation and filing, and follow-up of outstanding client information.
- Manage a portfolio of SME clients and act as a senior point of contact for accounting, tax and business queries.
- Handle and coordinate client queries relating to tax, wealth planning, transaction funding, business expansion and general corporate finance, involving specialist colleagues where appropriate.
- Monitor work in progress (WIP), ensuring jobs move through the practice efficiently and that completed work is billed promptly.
- Oversee billing processes, identify unbilled work and support the Managing Director with fee reviews, billing queries and debtor follow-up where required.
- Work with the accounts administration team and Admin Supervisor to ensure client information, records and queries are managed effectively.
- Collaborate with the firm's other service lines, including H.R., payroll, business expansion consulting and financial services, to provide joined-up solutions for clients.
- Identify business development opportunities within the existing client base and through new relationships, including opportunities to introduce clients to the firm's wider services.
- Support proposals, client meetings and new-business discussions, helping convert opportunities into sustainable client relationships.
- Contribute to improving practice processes, systems and workflows as the business grows.
What we're looking for
- Qualified Accountant – ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent.
- Solid experience in an accountancy practice environment, including responsibility for a portfolio of SME clients.
- A Practice Cert or willingness to pursue same.
- Strong experience in accounts preparation and tax return filing.
- Experience supervising, mentoring or developing staff; experience leading a small team is an advantage.
- Strong organisational and workflow-management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
- Confident handling client queries and building trusted, professional relationships with business owners and management teams.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in identifying opportunities to grow client relationships and develop new business.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and accounting software such as Sage, Big Red Cloud, Collsoft or similar.
The person
We are looking for someone who is practical, organised and commercially minded, with the confidence to take ownership and make decisions. You will be comfortable working directly with clients, supporting and challenging team members, and working closely with the Managing Director.
The role offers significant autonomy and scope to shape how the accounts function operates as the practice continues to grow. It will particularly suit a qualified accountant who wants to move beyond pure compliance work and take a broader role in managing a client-focused practice.
What you get
- Annual reviews and incentives.
- Free parking.
- Work-life balance.
- Career progression opportunities.
- The opportunity to play a meaningful role in the growth and development of a small but ambitious professional services business.
