Job summary

Amazon Development Centre Ireland Limited is seeking an SDE-I to design, develop, and optimise virtual machine monitors for serverless and container workloads. You will contribute to Firecracker and open-source hypervisor tech, building virtualization infrastructure powering AWS services in a global scale.

You'll collaborate with cross-disciplinary Amazonians, work on scalable cloud-native architectures, and participate in code reviews, CI/CD, and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completed a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related STEM fields.
• Experience with Networking, C, Firmware, Hardware, Memory Management, Computer Architecture, or Operating Systems.
• Experience with Linux: Firmware, Shell Scripting, Scripting Efficiency, Linux, and C++.
• Experience with C, C++, Firmware, Device Driver, Linux, ARM, Bare-Metal, or Kernel.
• Experience with Linux, System Integration, Networking, OS Kernels, Multi-threading, or Microprocessors/microcontrollers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise virtual machine monitors (VMMs) for serverless and container workloads.
• Contribute to Firecracker and related open-source hypervisor technologies at global scale.
• Build and maintain virtualisation infrastructure powering AWS Lambda, Aurora, and other AWS services.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary Amazonians to design, build, and operate innovative products and services.
• Design and develop scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation.
• Build and maintain resilient distributed systems that are scalable and cost-effective.
• Leverage GenAI and AI-powered tools to enhance development productivity while staying current with emerging technologies.
• Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and design patterns.
• Work in an agile environment with CI/CD and on-call responsibilities.
• Demonstrate operational excellence through monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues.
