Job summary

MongoDB is seeking a Lead Engineer to head the Server Ingress Security team, rearchitecting ingress networking to harden the MongoDB Server and enable Atlas Network Protection. You will guide security-focused engineering across Rust-based services, with emphasis on reliability and performance.

You will work in a hybrid model based in Dublin or Cork, shaping the 12-month roadmap, mentoring engineers, and coordinating with product and security leadership to deliver mission-critical security

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience managing a team of software engineers, including hiring, performance and growth management, compensation planning, and mentoring.
• 8+ years of experience building production-quality systems software with large backend/compiled codebases, ideally in Rust.
• Bonus points for experience with TLS, network protocols, and connection management.
• Strong technical judgment used to guide engineering decisions in security-sensitive or networking-adjacent domains.
• Customer-first mindset and willingness to cross team boundaries to find the right solution.
• Experience designing, writing, testing, maintaining, and operating mission-critical software systems.
• Coaching, career development, and creating growth opportunities for the team.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers, managing all aspects of people management including hiring, growth, compensation, and performance management.
• Be directly responsible for the results your team delivers.
• Lead the design, implementation, and operation of production-ready security services in Rust, focusing on security, correctness, performance, and operational excellence.
• Own the definition and execution of the team's 12-month roadmap for the Atlas Network Protection layer.
• Work with Product Management, Program Management, and Engineering leadership to specify, prioritize, and deliver new features.
• Handle time-sensitive security incidents and customer escalations when needed.
• Estimate task complexity, communicate delivery timelines, and manage risks for team projects.
• Ensure the team runs smoothly by removing blockers and coordinating cross-team dependencies.
