Job summary

Breedon Group plc in Ireland is offering a hands-on Road Surfacing Technology Apprenticeship based across Clare and surrounding counties. You will visit different sites, learn how major road projects are planned, delivered and managed, and gain hands-on experience while earning a salary.

The role involves outdoor work, early starts and potential weekend work, with a structured SOLAS and TUS Midlands apprenticeship pathway leading to a Higher Certificate qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with pre-start site visits and planning.
  • Preparing jobs before works commence.
  • Coordinating labour, plant, materials and subcontractors.
  • Ordering asphalt and other materials required for projects.
  • Supervising surfacing crews on site.
  • Ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to specification.
  • Promoting and maintaining high health and safety standards.
  • Carrying out quality inspections and ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Monitoring productivity and programme performance.
  • Liaising with clients, local authorities and contract managers.
  • Completing GPS measurements of finished works.
  • Preparing accurate site records and documentation.
  • Submitting completed measurements and paperwork to Contract Managers for payment processing.
  • Attending off-the-job apprenticeship training and completing all academic requirements through SOLAS and TUS Midlands.

Description

Are you based in the Clare area and looking for a career that's hands‑on, varied and gets you out and about every day?

As a Road Surfacing Technology Supervisor Apprentice at Breedon, you'll work across Clare and surrounding counties, visiting different sites and projects rather than sitting behind a desk all day. No two days are the same. You'll spend your time working alongside experienced surfacing professionals, learning how major road projects are planned, delivered and managed from start to finish.

You'll gain hands‑on experience while earning a salary and completing the SOLAS and TUS Midlands Road Surfacing Technology Apprenticeship, developing the skills and qualifications needed to progress in road surfacing and construction management.

Road surfacing is a practical, site‑based role. You should be comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions and, when projects require it, with early starts, night work and occasional weekend work.

Key Responsibilities

  • A full driving license. Candidates currently working towards obtaining one may also be considered subject to the travel requirements of the role.
  • The entry qualifications required for registration on the SOLAS and TUS Midlands apprenticeship programme a minimum of 5 subjects (Grade O6 / H7 or higher) in the Leaving Certificate, or an equivalent qualification
