Job summary

Bon Secours Health System seeks a Registered Surgical Officer (Full-time, 39 hours per week) to deliver elective surgical care in our new Limerick hospital. The role reports to the surgical team and supports consultants, nursing staff and other health professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.

Candidates should hold General Registration with the Irish Medical Council, possess BLS/ACLS, and have 5+ years in general or orthopedic surgery in acute hospital settings, with strong safety

• Eligible to work in Ireland.
• Relevant examinations/qualifications in surgery are desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients admitted to the general surgery service prior to surgery.
• Ensure operating theatre instruments/equipment are maintained and ready.
• Perform outpatient clinics under supervision of the Consultant.
• Supervise management of acute patients with Consultants and nursing staff.

Registered Surgical Officer Full-time (39 hours per week) | Permanent

Candidate Criteria:

• General Registration in the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Irish Medical Council
• Current BLS & ACLS training certificate
• Eligible to work in Ireland
• Relevant examinations/qualifications in surgery are desirable but not essential.

Experience

• Possess relevant clinical experience in the field of Surgery at Registrar or Senior Registrar level.
• A minimum of 5 + years relevant experience in the field of General Surgery or Orthopedic Surgery within an acute adult hospital setting with at least 3 years of that being in the Irish Healthcare System.
• Possess sufficient clinical knowledge to perform the job at a satisfactory level of competence
• Have an awareness of Health, Safety and Risk Management

The Purpose of This Role:

To undertake an important role in the delivery of elective surgical care and liaise with the consultant and hospital staff, including nursing staff and other health professionals in providing quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess patients admitted to the general surgery service at the hospital, particularly those requiring operative management prior to surgery, ensuring that adequate documentation of the physical examination has been undertaken and that appropriate investigations have been performed
• Ensure that the instruments in the operating theatre for general surgical cases are adequately maintained and that the equipment is functional and readily available in conjunction with the CNM2 Theatres.
• Perform outpatient clinics as required under the supervision of the Consultant.
• Supervise management of acute patients in association with Consultant, RMO’s and Nursing Management
