Job summary

Life Science Recruitment seeks an R&D Engineer II for a Galway-based medical device startup. You will contribute to developing innovative devices in early-stage product development, translating inputs into designs and test plans, and collaborating across teams.

You will apply 3+ years of R&D experience in medical devices, with a focus on neuro-interventional contexts, and work with external vendors to meet technical and schedule targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in R&D engineering within the medical device industry, preferably neuro-interventional devices.
• Strong understanding of basic engineering principles.

Responsibilities

• Translate design inputs into concepts and detailed designs with specs and test plans.
• Identify materials, assembly methods and define process settings.
• Develop and execute test plans and analyse results to identify optimal solutions.
• Contribute to the project team to meet performance, time and cost targets.
• Liaise with external vendors to achieve project goals.
• Understand physician techniques and clinical needs and assist in developing training materials.

My client an early-stage medical device start-up company focused on the design and development of novel devices. This is a new and evolving treatment area likely to be the next frontier in Neuro-intervention.

Overview

As an R&D Engineer you will contribute to the development of innovative medical devices and expected to apply your engineering skill and expertise to develop sound technical solutions that satisfy user needs, while providing regular technical and schedule updates to peers and management. Due to the nature of working in an early-stage start-up, the successful candidate will be involved in the early phase of product development and testing.

Responsibilities

• Translate design inputs into concepts and detailed designs, including specifications and test plans.
• Identify and select product materials, assembly methods and define process settings.
• Develop test models for prototype performance evaluations.
• Develop and execute test plans/protocols; analyse and interpret test results to identify optimal solutions to technical challenges and thoroughly document findings.
• Contribute to the project team to deliver key objectives, meeting performance, time and cost targets.
• Leverage and liaise with external vendors / resources to achieve project goals.
• Understand physician (user) techniques and clinical needs (disease state) and assist in developing product training materials.
