Job summary

AfterQuery seeks literary scholars to author and grade close reading and interpretation scenarios for frontier AI evaluations. You will ground interpretations in textual evidence and assess how language functions in texts.

Required is an advanced literature degree and a track record of teaching or research. This is a fully remote, async contractor role with minimum 10 hours per week and weekly payments via Stripe.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in literature, English, comparative literature, or a closely related field.
• 2+ years of teaching, research, editorial, or published literary work.
• Close reading depth across periods, genres, or traditions.
• Clear written English for documenting interpretive reasoning.
• Able to commit at least 10 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Author literary scenarios that test close reading and interpretation.
• Write reference readings with the textual evidence behind each claim.
• Grade model output for textual fidelity, interpretive depth, and craft awareness.
• Flag readings that sound sophisticated but ignore what the text actually says.
