Job summary

Contentful is seeking an Engineering Manager - Content API to lead a remote-first web development team across Europe, driving governance and reusability of core content entities.

You’ll partner with Product, Design and Security to translate business goals into scalable technical solutions, mentor engineers, and execute the roadmap for Content Models, Collections, and Locales while ensuring performance, security and global availability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience leading development teams.
• Proficient in web technologies (TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js) and familiar with headless CMS platforms (Contentful).
• Excel at optimizing performance and scalability with complex content structures and large datasets.
• Balance innovation with immediate impact; oversee technical delivery while growing team capabilities.
• Collaborate across Product, Design, Data, Engineering to align technical work with business goals.
• Strong mentoring track record; foster continuous learning in a distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a globally distributed web development team; mentor and develop team members.
• Define team roadmap focused on entity reuse and governance; work with Product/Design on execution.
• Translate business needs into technical solutions; integrate CMS with the ecosystem (APIs, entities).
• Oversee integration and scaling of content management features (Content Models, Collections, Locales).
• Guide solutioning, coding, testing and deployment; enforce best practices and quality.
• Mentor engineers; promote technical excellence and growth through feedback.
• Manage day-to-day operations ensuring capacity for maintenance and new features; ensure global coverage.
• Work with Product Managers to define and execute the roadmap with clear communication.
