Job summary

ESB, Ireland's leading energy company, seeks a Senior Legal Manager to lead the Regulatory Legal team and provide strategic, commercially-focused advice on energy regulation, licenses, competition and climate legislation. You will influence external policy, manage complex disputes and collaborate across ESB business units.

The role requires a senior, in-house background with strong drafting, negotiation and leadership skills, reporting to the Group Head of Legal.

Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Ireland.
• Minimum 10 years' post-qualification experience in-house or in a relevant sector.
• Experience in energy/utility sector and/or competition law.
• Strong leadership and commercial judgement.
• Excellent drafting skills for regulatory/policy submissions and contracts.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic regulatory and competition advice to Group Head of Legal and ESB senior management.
• Lead legal strategy in responding to regulatory enquiries/investigations, regulatory disputes, merger filings and consultation responses.
• Collaborate with Group Compliance to support policy design and implementation of compliance policies.
• Lead engagements with Business Unit regulatory teams and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies and government departments.
• Manage external legal advisers, fees, and relationships.
• Lead and motivate the regulatory legal team with development plans and delivery improvements.
• Work with the Group Head of Legal to deliver cross-functional legal services for ESB.
• Influence the reputation of ESB's legal services and drive continuous improvement.
• Champion customer value through service delivery improvements and a culture of excellence.
